Essen und drinken bei dem Holländer is a charming restaurant nestled within the serene surroundings of Campingplatz Wiesensee in Stahlhofen am Wiesensee, Germany. This cozy eatery offers a delightful culinary journey into authentic Dutch cuisine, making it a beloved stop for cyclists, locals, and travelers alike seeking a warm, unpretentious dining experience.
From the moment you step into the quaint wooden huts, you feel embraced by a homely atmosphere that perfectly complements the peaceful forest setting. The inviting outdoor seating areas, tucked away in the calm woodland, offer a tranquil retreat where guests can savor their meals surrounded by nature’s gentle rustling.
The menu shines with traditional Dutch specialties, each dish bursting with rich, comforting flavors. Patrons frequently praise the bitterballen — golden, crispy Dutch meat croquettes, perfectly seasoned and reminiscent of those found in the Netherlands itself. Another standout is the jagerschnitzel, tender and generously topped with mushroom sauce, delivering a savory depth that simply melts in your mouth. The schnitzels here are repeatedly celebrated by visitors for their perfect balance of crispiness and juiciness, truly making every bite a taste sensation.
Beyond the food, what really enhances the experience are the genuine, friendly hosts who put their heart into every visit. Whether it’s the carefully imported Dutch snacks or the authentic Joppie sauce from Holland, there’s an evident passion for preserving and sharing Dutch culinary culture. This dedication resonates deeply with both Dutch expatriates and international guests who find themselves back here time and again.
Guests also appreciate the selection of traditional Dutch beers such as Heineken, served ice-cold to complement the hearty fare. While the restaurant doesn’t boast a direct view of the Wiesensee, the peaceful and cozy ambiance more than compensates—offering a restful pause amidst a day of cycling or exploring the surrounding nature.
In essence, Essen und drinken bei dem Holländer is not just a restaurant; it’s a warm invitation to experience the rich flavors and delightful traditions of Dutch cuisine in a soothing, rustic environment. Whether you’re stopping by during a bike tour or planning a leisurely meal, this gem promises an authentic, heartfelt culinary escape that lingers fondly in your memory.

A wonderful restaurant right next to the Wiesensee. I got the bitterballen which tasted like the same ones I’ve had in the Netherlands. I then got the jagerschnitzel which was also awesome. Great service and atmosphere in the forest
